Information literacy is the set of
abilities required to recognize when information is needed and then locate,
evaluate, and effectively use the needed information. Although this concept
might seem universal, teaching and assessing information literacy at the
program level takes on many different forms in the humanities, social sciences,
and sciences. The presenters will describe their work to document and
assess undergraduate information literacy learning in the English, Psychology,
and Biology programs. Each of these disciplines presents unique challenges in
regard to incorporating information literacy into coursework as well as what
information literacy means on a program level and how students apply it with
the context of their majors. A panel discussion will follow the presentations.
