Limited Time Only! Adopt JSTOR Duplicate Print Journals

With the addition of the JSTOR Arts and Sciences V and VI Collections, Gumberg Library will be withdrawing corresponding print journal titles. Because JSTOR is committed to providing stable access in perpetuity to the titles in its collections, we are confident that we can trust JSTOR as a reliable and sustainable archive of scholarly journals. This allows us to reduce our print journal holdings and repurpose space.

For a limited time only, Duquesne University faculty have the opportunity to “adopt” duplicate print journal titles. The title list is available at http://www.duq.edu/library/research/jstor.cfm.

Requests for all volumes of a particular title(s) will receive priority and will be filled on a first come, first served basis, immediately upon receipt. Requests for selected volumes or years will be held until December 3, and then filled in order of date received.

Send all requests to Carmel Yurochko, Serials/Electronic Resources Librarian, yurochko@duq.edu , by December 3, 2010. You may also call Carmel at x5233 if you have questions.

All adoptions are final. Journals not claimed will be recycled.

Gumberg Librarians Present at Prestigious Conference and Win Best Poster

Gumberg Library’s David Nolfi, Tracie Ballock, and Carmel Yurochko presented a poster at the Association of Research Libraries’ biennial Library Assessment Conference in Baltimore, Maryland on October 25. The conference included librarians, information professionals, and researchers from universities in North America, Europe, and Australia. Conference judges selected their poster, “When Numbers Don’t Tell the Whole Story: Using Meta-Analysis to Create an Effective, Sustainable Electronic Resource Assessment Process” as one of twelve finalists among the 82 posters submitted. All conference participants were then invited to vote for best poster among the twelve finalists. The following day, the conference organizers announced the Duquesne poster had been voted the overall best poster.

Gumberg Library also had a second poster accepted at the conference. Nolfi and Ballock partnered with Allison Brungard and Bridget Euliano to present “Qualitative Analysis on a Shoestring: Developing a Cost Effective Strategy to Analyze LibQUAL+ Comments.” This poster highlighted the methodology used to analyze student, faculty, and staff comments from Gumberg Library’s 2009 LibQUAL+ survey.
